i am a big slacker.
for example, i did not file my taxes until april 15th. as if that wasn't bad enough, i didn't even do them until about 11 am on the 15th.
i was totally going to do my taxes early. i mean, why not? why put off getting all my money back, and really, how hard can it be?
HAH.
another example - this new design has been done for about 4 days, and i just didn't put it up.
i am determined not to be a slacker tomorrow, though.... the back bedroom in my house has recently been vacated for the first time in over a year, and i am reclaiming it as my office, and i have a lot of furniture to move! i managed to cram one of the couches in there, i got a new bookshelf, and i'm moving a table and an end table from the living room. plus the tv and computer are moving, too. i'm hoping that the absence of electronic distractions in my bedroom will help me sleep better.
my bedroom's getting a makeover, too... i splurged at target and bought some new bedding. it was expensive, so i'm keeping it in the packages in case it goes on clearance sometime soon. all i need now is a big cushy chair and an ottoman. mmm, ikea, anyone?

i'm not that person!

so, yeah, i did my taxes and filed them on the 15th. hah.

happiness is a cherry slurpee
today after work, i stopped at 7-11 and got my first cherry slurpee of the year... welcome to spring!
spring in santa cruz is a lot like fall in santa cruz, which are both remarkably like summer in santa cruz, except with less tourists. and now that the sun is out and it's not cold anymore, it's time to start packing my lunch and walking to the beach on my lunch break! on friday i went down to the wharf and had clam chowder and a shrimp cocktail at riva, and followed it up with a little window shopping and an ice cream cone at marini's. it was the nicest, most relaxing lunch break i've had since i started this job 7 months ago. i'll definetly be doing that again soon (but i'll skip lunch at riva... that place is definetly overrated).
cherry slurpees are definetly one of those foods that brings back memories (but is a slurpee really food? i digress...). senior year of high school, me and d would get cherry slurpees after musical rehearsal... after youth group, a bunch of people would drive to the 7-11 and get slurpees and sit on the curb. the best time to have a slurpee is after 10 pm, the best thing about slurpees is mixing them (i prefer cherry coke, myself), the worst thing about slurpees is that they melt way too fast! on that note, time to go throw mine in the freezer so i can enjoy it later!

give me a reason...
i am having motivational problems lately.
every day i get up with grand ambitions of what i will do that day, and i inevitably end up working, coming home exhausted, making dinner, and crawling into bed around 10:30.
i figure that my days off will be a bit more productive, since i don't have the tedious ten-hour chore of working, but nooo. i sleep in, and rarely get in the shower before 4pm. granted, i still get more done on my days off than on other days, but still! i have so much to do and no energy to do any of it!
it's really sad, i don't even have enough motivation to sit down and write to my best friend in philly, whom i havent' talked to in months. now if that's not sad, i don't know what is.
...
i am out of diet coke. this is not good, as i have taken to buying sodas from the machine across the street from my work, which does not have any diet soda at all. we have bottled water at work, and i know i should drink that. oh, if only water had caffiene in it.
...
i'll admit he was never my favorite member of *nsync. i was a fan of JC myself. but after seeing the rolling stone photos ( yum yum), and now the new video, i must admit it. justin timberlake is HOT. maybe it's the goatee. hmmm.

so much to say, so little time.
it's not like i don't have things to say lately.
on the contrary, i have a billion things running through my head, and every time i try to sit down and write, i just can't. it's very strange. i hate writers block.
the other day i was sitting on my couch, watching all the war coverage, and i was having flashbacks to when i was twelve. the first gulf war started two days before my twelfth bithday, and i remember being really upset. i'm no less upset about it this time, but i can't even begin to put my thoughts into words, becasue i'm very conflicted about the whole thing. but i will say that war sucks.
tomorrow will be fun, though, because i am going to a coustume party. i am very excited, because my friend amica has great parties. i have the best costume ever... i am going as queen of the fucking universe. oh yeah. ;-) i can't wait to see what everyone else is dressed up as, but i can't think of anything that will be better than queen of the fucking universe. the fact that i have sunday off work will make the party even more enjoyable. ;-)
i am so tempted to but the vines cd, simply becasue the cover art is so damn cool. i also want to get the zwan cd. billy corgan is super cool.
anoyone have any great music they've heard lately that i should buy/download/listen to?

procrastination station
i really, really need to do my taxes.
and go to the store. and do laundry. and clean my room. but of course, i am not doing any of these things, i am reading and listening to my new cd's. see, books and music have always been my preferred mode of procrastination. i remember being a teenager and getting in trouble for reading instead of doing... whatever it was i was supposed to be doing.
so now, i have all these things i should be doing, but last week i stopped by the bookshop and picked up three new books - the 25th hour, written by my creative writing t.a. from UCI, my date with satan, (short stories) and a first edition advance readers copy of bee season. i wo'nt even go into the seven or eight others in my 'to read' pile!
add to that the 9 cd's i got this weekend, and i'm just in heaven. i can't see my floor, but i'm in heaven!
i've also been killing myself on my days off, trekking all over the bay are to see shows. first moe, then dark star at the fillmore, and this past saturday i went to see a triple-bill at the catalyst... the thermals, the velvet teen, and death cab for cutie. i was going primarily to see death cab, and i had never heard of teh other two bands, as i'm not really so much into indie rock (if that's what you call it.. i never know). i liked the first song that the thermals did, but after that, it quickly fell into the 'every damn song sounds the same' category. the velvet teen was up next, and i liked them a lot. the lead singer has a jeff buckley quality to his voice, which was very cool. and death cab for cutie was awesome, of course. the show went late, and i had to work the next morning, but it was all worth it.
and on that note, in youth group, me and the other 'grown-ups' have a motto... "if it wasn't for the very last second, nothing would ever get done'. ;-) amen!

gimme some moe. baby!
phew! it's been a busy week!
work is, beleive it or not, getting better. we have a new manager who actually knows how to manage, plus he changed the schedule so i can come in at 8 again, instead of 7:30. this makes me very very happy. i never realized how much difference a half an hour of sleep can make. plus i'm really pretty amazed that work is getting better... i mean, it's still not my thing and i can't wait to find something better, but for now, it'll do.
tomorrow is going to be a good day... after work, i'm jumping in my car and buzzing up to the fillmore to see moe.!! i am sooooo excited - i love moe. and last time they were here in cali, i was broke. this will be the first time i've seen them since 2000! then tomorrow, a long overdue haircut, a pedicure, and debbie and jon's pisces party. i can't wait.
oh - cool new band alert.... minus the bear. alex told me about them and i am totally obsessed now. check out thanks for the killer game of crisco twister. best song i've heard in a long time. it will rock your socks off.

happy valentines day to me!
well, i'm proud to say that this is my 8th consecutive *single* valentines day. i'm actually past the point of it being depressing... i mean, the whole thing is a fabricated holiday developed by hallmark so they could make a zillion dollars on cards. i figure at the very least i'm saving myself some money. ;-)
i do treat myself to something special on v-day, though! i think this year, now that i'm home from work, i'll take a long, hot shower, slather myself in some yummy smelling lotion, and curl up in bed with popcorn and a good movie. maybe clerks. or margaret cho... we'll see.
actually, valentines day is never really depressing becasue it's my buddy donna's birthday!! so, happy 24th, d! hope you're having a blast in ohio!!

so fresh so clean
today was a day from hell. you know, one of those days that goes from blah to lame to sucky to mind-numbingly awful. i was so happy when work was over that i went out and bought myself a pint of haagen dazs. mmm.
as pissed as i am about frenchie getting kicked off american idol, i think in the end this will work in her favor. she's going to get so much media attention in the next few days, and she'll probably be signed by the american idol folks or someone else. you know, there is really no such thing as bad press.
i suggest going to savefrenchie.com if you wan't to protest her removal from the show, they've collected addresses, names and phone numbers for all the important people. i reccomend writing to the sponsors of american idol as well (coke, old navy, herbal essences, att wireless, ford) and tell them that you'll no longer be buying their products. but skip signing the online petition, those don't work.
it rained in santa cruz today. and now everything smells fresh and clean.
this is good. i could use a clean start tomorrow. ;-)

random thoughts.
somehow, and i'm not sure how it happened, but i am the number one search result when you search yahoo for frenchie davis. ?? so, so strange. and wouldn't you think that the american idol website would be in the top 20? nope. strange. very strange. see for yourself!
tonight i am going to see chicago with d and renee. i am excited. see, i love love love musicals. i love movie musicals more. i am very excited about the return of the movie musical... there is no where else where people can get away with reaking into song than in a dark theater, and so few people go to see real theater, so movie musicals can bring this to many more people.... plus there are things you just can't do in a live show, so the movie versions of musicals are a bit more spectacular, and we all know that spectacle = goodness. ;-)
i think i am babbling. i have a great idea for a redesign (this one is just for the interim... ) but it will take a while... it's a challenge, so i like it. ;-) anyway, we'll see how long it takes.
UPDATE, 2/12/03
ok, so i am really pissed about frenchie getting kicked off amerian idol.
i, for one, will no longer be watching the show, since she was the only one worth watching it for.

i love tv
mmm, i love tv.
caught the premier of dragnet tonight. it was really good. of course, i haven't seen the original (gasp!) so i don't really have anything to compare it with... but i really enjoyed it. it reminded me a lot of law and order (which i love), so i wan't surprised to see that dick wolf was the producer.
and isn't law and order addictive? man, i (fondly) remember when i was unemployed, and i'd watch law and order 4 or 5 times a day. even now that i'm workign full time, i still manage to watch law and order at least 3 or 4 times a week! my favorite right now is criminal intent... vincent d'onofrio is so hot! i love the crazy genius type. ;-)
speaking of tv - oh my god, i LOVE american idol. my money's on frenchie davis all the way... not only does she have that diva presence, but holy shit, she can SING! so, i expect everyone to call and vote for her at least once every time she performs. . ;-)
in reveiw: dragnet - good. american idol - better. frenchie davis - fabulous. so... go forth and vote! ;-)

work... sucks?
so, today at work i had my thirty day reveiw. this is hysterical since i have been working at my current job since the end of august. my boss had mostly good things to say about me, most notably that:
1. i have a good attitude (which i do, considering the shit-hole job i work at)
2. that i am motivated (which i most decidedly am not, thank you theater arts degree)
and
3. that i'm always looking for ways to make things more efficent (that's because these people do stuff so screwy that it takes ten minutes to do something that should take 10 seconds).
the only mildly negative said during the reveiw was that if i ever wanted to get promoted i should dress better. well, first of all, considering i'm running around, inside and outside all day, dressing nicer would be dumb... i'd be totally uncomfortable. plus, i hope i'm not at this place long enough to get promoted!
i'm grossly underpaid as it is... i'm a college graduate and i work 40 hrs + a week at a job where there is little down time and i get paid 11 dollars an hour. ELEVEN DOLLARS AN HOUR. these people are robbing me blind... i figure at the least i am worth $14. at the least!! if the job market wasn't so shitty right now i'd be out of there so fast, they wouldn't even realize i was gone.
all in all, though, the job is getting better, not worse. i still complain about it a lot, but i'm not coming home wanting to put my head in the oven anymore, so that's good. but if the job fairy is reading, how about sending me a great, $15-17/hr gig where i can wear jeans and sneakers to work? pretty please??

downtown skyline
for some reason, this reminds me of disneyland.
Rich: Thanx for bringing a bit of home to my otherwise dreary german quasi-sunshine,but still frickin' freezin life, i found this sight by accident looking for american idol juicies :)since i'm disembodied from my home in San Jose and livin in europe now

hey look! i'm back!
ok, so when i thought i would take a short break from blogging to deal with... well, december, i didn't think i would be gone for so long. but you know, i wanted a redesign, and then i changed hosts, and so i had to reinstall mt, etc etc. excuses are fun. this whole thing seems a bit like my situation with the gym. i'm going tomorrow! really!!
so, december was busy but good. christmas was good. new years was geeky but good. and now its' almost february! tomorrow i will be 24 and one week. i had a great birthday.... me and my mom went to the monterey bay aquarium. i took a ton of photos. some of the good ones are up in my new photoblog. yes! photoblog! i back-posted some photos as well because i needed a few days up to get the design to work. ;-)
so, tomorrow is my day off. i have a tendency to sleep all day on my day off, even though i start off with good intentions about getting up up at a reasonable hour and doing errands, laundry, dishes, etc. tomorrow my goals are jsut to go to the gym and the post office. that is all. i'm all about starting small.
actually, starting small has been working for me lately. for example - last month i switched to diet soda. those who know me realize what a big deal this is. this month, i am trying to kick fast food. so far i am doing very well with this. since jan. 1st, i have not had any fast food at all. this is also a big deal. this is the same way i stopped eating red meat... i just decided and that was it. now if only i could decide just to go to the gym 3 times a week!

8 mile
man, i can't beleive i've been doing this for two years!
me and d went to see 8 mile tonight. it was good, although it had a bit of the bouncy camera thing going on, so i got a little queasy. but eminem was good, and i really liked the ending. saturday we're going to see harry potter, which i haven't seen yet. i'm stoked.
ugh. another 11 hour day work day awaits me. i should probably sleep.
damn job.
