it's been a while, so here's the friday five!
1. Would you say that you're good at keeping in touch with people? well, i used to be. i used to be great at writing letters, and e-mails, but i've been slacking lately. however, on a completely different level, i still am good friends with most of the people from my 'group' in high school. so i guess i'm both good and bad at staying in touch with people.
2. Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why? well, lately i favor the phone and meeting in person, mostly becasue i've gotten to lazy to type.
3. Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it? I have IM, and i use it every few days... i have about 50 buddies on my list, but only 3 or 4 i actually im on a regular basis. i used to use icq, but gave up on it... mostly because everyone else did. ;-)
4. Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away? a lot of them live far away now, but people have been moving so often it's hard to keep track anymore.
5. Are you an "out of sight, out of mind" person, or do you believe that "distance makes the heart grow fonder"? no, out of sight, never out of mind. ;-)

friday five!
friday five!
When was the last time you...
1. ...sent a handwritten letter?
hm. a long time ago. i was never really into handwritten letters because i write slowly and sloppily. i do love sending postcards, though... i sent five of them from disneyland a few days ago!
2. ...baked something from scratch or made something by hand?
well, i crocheted a purse while i was on my trip, and i just finished a knitted baby blanket i've been working on!
3. ...camped in a tent?
elementary school. not looking to repeat that anytime soon, either. ;-)
4. ...volunteered your time to church, school, or community?
well, gosh, i just got back from a week-long trip with my church youth group, which was the culmination of six months of work. and actually, on wednesday night, i'm going to meet up with the same youth group in downtown san jose to be an adult sponsor for the wastern states youth gathering. ;-)
5. ...helped a stranger?
um, me and vanessa were in am pm in campbell, and i gave directions to a guy looking for garden city. i think that counts, although i have no idea why anyone would want to go to garden city.

friday five!
friday five!
1. What's the last vivid dream that you remember having?
actually, last night i had a dream that involved... someone from my past (and i'll leave it at that). we were in a huge room with a bunch of beds and strange bathrooms made of glass.. (??)... it looked like an orphanage, but it was a dorm room. all of the beds had colorful, 80's cartoon character sheets and beadspreads on them. there were guys and girls there. at one point i looked out a window, and things were on fire, which scared me. i asked the person i was with if we could leave, and then i woke up.
2. Do you have any recurring dreams?
not lately, and it pisses me off. i've had a few great dreams, where i wake up in them morning and feel great, and i'd love to have them be recurring. the nightmare i had when i was little (see below) was a recurring dream... thank god that one stopped.
3. What's the scariest nightmare you've ever had?
i used to have a nightmare when i was little... i don't remember any details, but i remember that it scared me senseless. lucky i don't ahve it anymore.. i think if i did, it would still scare me.
4. Have you ever written your dreams down or considered it? Why or why not?
i wrote one of my dreams down once, only to re-discover it a number of years later. reading it, i was horribly embarrased that my subconcious could even come up with something so... bizarre. so, since the dreams that i remember are often bizarre and therefore slightly embarrasing, i don't ever write them down.
5. Have you ever had a lucid dream? What did you do in it?
i've never had a luicid dream... at least, not one that i've remembered when i woke up. i've been trying for years, though, and i read somewhere that if you try to have a lucid dream long enough, that you'll have one eventually. so i guess i'll keep trying.

john mayer!!!
i am going to see john mayer today. i am so excited i can hardly stand it. seriously, since buying his cd on a fluke, i've fallen totally in love with his music, and to be seeing him live (and at the the fillmore, no less) is so so cool.
and did i mention that he's hot?? i'm going to try and get my camera in to the show... i'll try to take some photos and post them tomorrow.
damn, i really want to do the friday five but i can't get onto the page. damn!

friday five!
1. If you could eat dinner with and "get to know" one famous person (living or dead), who would you choose? this is so funny, since he isn't really 'famous' yet, but i'd have to choose john mayer. from what i can tell, we have a few things in common (we both love jeff buckley, for one), and i'd really love to pick his brain about stuff other than music. plus, he's hot. ;-)
2. Has the death of a famous person ever had an effect on you? you know, i'm never really that emotionally impacted when celebrities die... i remember being surprised when princess diana died, though.
3. If you could BE a famous person for 24 hours, who would you choose? i'd be myself...
4. Do people ever tell you that you look like someone famous? not really.
5. Have you ever met anyone famous? i've met three of the members of phish (trey, mike and jon), neil patrick harris and christian mena (after a performance of rent ), and camryn manheim (there's an undeveloped picture of us together somewhere in my room). and i'm sure i know a few people who will be famous one day... i have lots of very talented friends. ;-)

friday five!
1. What is your favorite time of year? summer!
2. What is it about your favorite season that, well, makes it your favorite season? i love how it stays light way later, and everyone is in a better mood because they're getting some sun... and of course the outdoor concerts, shakespeare in the park, etc etc etc.
3. What is your least favorite time of year? Why? i don't like winter at all. dark, cold, wet, and windy... all things i don't like. the only redeeming thing about winter is christmas... i love setting up me little fake tree, decorating my living room, amd throwing my annual holiday party.
4. Do you do anything to celebrate or recognize the changing of seasons? not really...
5. What's your favorite thing to do outside? i like just hanging out or reading outside (if the sun reflecting off the pages doesn't blind me). i'm not really sporty, so the only athletic thing i can think of is swimming, and i can't do that very often at all... lack of a swimming pool, if you know what i mean.

friday five!
1. What's your favorite animal? i'm a cat person, definetly.
2. What pets have you had in your lifetime? good god, i've had so many pets i'm not sure i can remeber them all. there were always at least two cats in our family, and as many as five (jessica, alfie, dolly, skinny, marmalade, punky, princess, mac, mama kitty, bud, eric), and we had rabbits, frogs, fish, lizards and birds. right now, i have two frogs, jack and karen, and i'd like to get a cat sometime in the near future.
3. Is there any specific pet that you've wanted but never had? no, not really.
4. Are you allergic to any animals? actually, i'm allergic to cats, but i think after having been around them my whole life, i've developed some sort of immunity.
5. Do you have any 'pet' pet peeves (your pets or others')? i hate it when people let their dogs jump on you, or blame their dogs' bad behavior on the actions of other people, rather than admitting that their dog is a brat.

friday five!
1. What makes you homesick? thinking about sleeping in my own bed or being surrounded by complete strangers.
2. Where is "home" for you? Is it where you are living now, or somewhere else (ie: Mom & Dad's house, particular state/city)? well, i have two homes, as evidenced by my cell phone... santa cruz is my home now, but a little part of my will always consider san jose to be home, since that's where i grew up.
3. What makes it home for you? People? Things? i think a little bit of both. once i got all my stuff settled here in sc, it started to feel like home, and not a moment sooner. on the other hand, when i lived in irvine it never really felt like home, even though i had all my things, because i missed my family.
4. Where is the furthest you've been from home, miles-wise? um, i'm not sure which is farther...toronto philadelphia new york city or the bahamas. but yeah. there.
5. What are your plans for this weekend? hopefully i'll get to sleep a lot, catch up with my backlog of e-mails, and do my chores.

friday five!
(this post got all garbled, then it dissapeared, but now it is fixed. ok.)
friday five! (as you can see by the timestamp, i like cutting things very close.)
1. Hey, baby, what's your sign? Do you think it fits you pretty well? I'm a capricorn, and i think it suits me for the most part. capricorns are usually described as super work-driven people, and that's only the case when i really really care about something (and even then i leave it to the last minute). but i'm stubborn as hell, practical (well, to a point), and i'm a born leader, which are all cap qualities.
2. What's the worst birthday gift you've ever received? the chicken pox. no, seriously.
3. What's the best birthday gift you've ever received? i think the cd changer my grandparents got me this year is pretty great... ranks up there with the mary baxter-st.clair mermaid print my mom got me for my 21st birthday.
4. What's the best way you've celebrated your birthday thus far? well, i've never had a birthday celebration that went over the top, so most of mine sort of blend together... this year a bunch of people went bowling, which was really fun.
5. What are your plans for this weekend?
well, i'm going to see comedy sportz in san jose tomorrow, then on sunday it's off to the outlets!!

friday five!
1. What was the first thing you ever cooked? you know, honestly, i don't remember. it was probably ramen... i was, and still am, a total ramen freak. i do remeber that around 7th grade i discovered that you could make bacon in the microwave. mmm, bacon.
2. What's your signature dish? i can make a lot of goopy, really tasty casseroles, but right now my specialty is a organic vegetarian pasta... penne with olive oil and black olive pesto, mixed with spinach, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, red bell peppers, olives and garlic, topped with parmesan and baked in the oven for just a few mintes to get the top crispy. great with alfaro's rosemary garlic sourdough and butter. ;-)
3. Ever had a cooking disaster? (tasted like crap, didn't work, etc.) Describe. well, once i was trying to make gravy for a fancy dinner party i was throwing, and misread the recipe... i added two cans of chickn broth rather than two cups. that went down the disposal, and we had butter on our potatos.
4. If skill and money were no object, what would make for your dream meal? my dream meal would be one where i was eating something that tasted good, surrounded by the people i love.
5. What are you doing this weekend? well, tomorrow i'm going to sleep until i wake up, and on sunday my friend katlynn is visiting me. should be fun.

friday five!
1. Have you ever had braces? Any other teeth trauma? no, thank god, i was lucky and my teeth grew in straight. my dentist wanted me to get braces to fix the gap between my front teeth, but i flatly refused. i figured, if madonna could pull it off, so could i!
2. Ever broken any bones? oh dear lord, here we go... i broke my leg when i was three, then in third/fourth grades i did wrist, other wrist, and back to the first wrist again. sophomore year of high school i broke my right ankle really badly, had surgery and all. that one was the worst. (yes, yes, i am a klutz.)
3. Ever had stitches? other than on the aforementioned ankle, i dont' think so.
4. What are the stories behind some of your [physical] scars? let's see... i have a scar under my lip from when i was 1 or two... my baby sister was in one of those bouncy swing chairs and kicked me in the face. one on my knee from when i was seven or so... i was running around my grama's backyard and fell on the exposed corner of a brick. there is, of course, a scar on either side of my right ankle, but i went over that one already. by far my favorite, though, is a small scar right below my right wrist. a couple of months ago, i was trying to open a jar of jam, and gouged myself with my own thumbnail. ;-)
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? i'm going to see the student dance show tomorrow night, and then i'm driving to san luis obisbo to visit my friend autumn. yay!

friday five!
1. What cologne or perfume do you wear? i don't really wear perfume, but for special occasions i wear amythest from victoria's secret (which has been discontinued... bummer.)
2. What cologne or perfume do you like best on the opposite sex? calvin klein eternity, if they still make it. mmmm, makes my toes curl.
3. What one smell can you not stomach? peanut butter. blech.
4. What smell do you like that others might consider weird? i love new car smell. i guess this is not so weird, but my family sure thinks it is.
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? you know, i have no idea! wow, this is a first.

1. What do you have your browser start page set to? my own homepage (i like to see if i have new comments).
2. What are your favorite news sites? cnn, but most of all i love nextdraft, the best newsletter ever!!
3. Favorite search engine? yahoo, baby, yahoo!
4. When did you first get online? my senior year of high school (that's 1997)... back when my parents refused to get the internet and i had to dial up through the public library to get my e-mail and i surfed the web with a text browser. ahhhh - times have changed.
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? catching up on reading, and moving furniture so our new housemate can move in!

friday five
firday five!! (seriously, what is with me doing this at the last minute every damn week??)
1. What was your first job? i worked as the senior high youth assistant for my church. i got to help design the monthy newsletter, and fold, staple and label all 400 of them (and this was before it was all automated!!)
2. How old were you when you had your first kiss? i was 14. we were at the ice rink. it was as wonderful as i had imagined it would be, but it guess it was kinda obnoxious to be making out in the middle of the ice rink. ;-)
3. What was your first car? What happened to it? my first car was a 1995 turquoise ford that i still have. soon it will be going to my sister and i'll get to start driving my new car!!
4. What was your first concert? i'm ashamed to say that my first concert was a new kids concert - although the only reason i was there is because my sister couldn't find anyone to take the other pair of tickets, so it was me, my sister my mom and my grama. it was awful. my first phish concert was 7-31-97. i feel like i need to include that becasue it was the first one i ever went to without a parent, and it was a major life-changing experience. ;-)
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? job hunting, sleeping and catching up on e-mails.

friday five
friday five!
1. You've just won a complete collection of movies starring one actor - what actor would you pick? this question is too hard and i'm too tired. ;-)
2. What was the last movie you saw in a theater? monsters inc.
3. What was the last video or DVD that you bought? moulin rouge
