work sucks.

today was one of those days at work that just never seemed to end. it just dragged on and on and on and as the day progresssed we all just got tired and worn out and by the end of the day no one was even trying.

we're really understaffed right now... i've been working weekends for over a month now, which isn't too bad, i still get 2 days off, but weekends are only 4 hour days, so my paychecks have been smaller. monday i complained about that (the cutback in hours) and hey! today my problem was solved.... we're losing one of our co-workers to another office for at least 2 weeks, so now we all get to work 6 days a week.

VOM.

thank god i have the next two days off, or i'd go insane. i've worked the past 6 days in a row. i am so tired right now i can't believe i'm even typing this. i barely had the energy to heat up my leftovers for dinner tonight.

on a happier note, becasue i did good in my sales in may (gak. i hate even writing that. i hate working in sales SO MUCH.), i won a $100 macy's gift certificate! so yesterday, i went to the mall and bought ralph lauren towels. on SALE. they are pink and turquoise and soft and BEAUTIFUL. then when i went to pay, i found out that they were taking off the sales tax, so i still have $10 left on my gift card. plus i'm about 99% sure that i will get another $100 this month, plus a $50 bonus! although i probably should consider that $50 already spent since that's how much i spent on new books yesterday. ;-)

OMG, i actually just fell asleep at my desk. lol! ok, i'm going to go curl up in bed and listen to some simon & garfunkel and fall alseep reading the new ethan hawke novel and sleep FOREVER.

dead men tell no tales...

so tonight, i finally forced myself to get in the car and drive to the movies to see pirates of the carribean. it's one of my favorite rides at disneyland, so i was super excited to see the movie. in my opinion johnny depp was born to play a pirate.

when i got to the theater, i found out that thursdays are 'family nights', so i got a ticket for $4.50!!! i never go to the movies because it's too damn expensive, but now i'll be headed out every thursday... with such cheap tickets i can actually afford to get popcorn and junior mints. ;-)

the movie was great... it had awesome special effects, johhny depp was amazing... i've read reviews that he seemed more like a drag queen than a drunk pirate, but i didn't think so... maybe it was just all that eyeliner. the movie was long, but i wasn't bored at all. i liked the little bits from the ride that they put in the movie... the part with the pirates in jail, trying to get the keys from the dog... and where geoffrey rush says, "avast, ye bloomin' cockroachers!". being the huge disney geek that i am i totally recognized those parts. ;-)

i am all over the $4.50 movies, though. maybe next week i will go see legally blonde 2.

only in santa cruz....

while riding the giant dipper tonight, i was two cars behind an older man and his girlfriend that were actually smoking pot on the ride. for real. like, you could see them passing their glass piece in the photo they take of you going down the second hill. i mean, come on... who smokes pot on a roller coaster?!?

*shakes head...* yup. only in santa cruz.

music music music

week in review -

monday - still reeling from phish, i made the trek up to concord to see the counting crows and john mayer. this is cool because i couldn't afford to pay full price to see them at shoreline, but then i got super cheap lawn tickets for concord, which is a great venue, but is far away and 100 degrees at 7pm. ick. got in to the venue right as maroon5 were finishing their set (boohoo) and grabbed a spot on the lawn. counting crows come on, and they are even better than i had imagined. i've loved the crows since their first album came out in 1993, yet i had never seen them in concert before. they broke out friend of the devil, which was positively gorgeous. debbie just about had a conniption fit. we decided that that song alone was worth the price of admission. we were very annoyed by these two drunk girls next to us who were being totally obnoxious. john came out to play his set and the girls got more annoying, so we yelled at them until they left. actually, debbie went over an politely told them to shut the hell up, but i would have preferred option one. debbie kept saying, 'i want john to bust out some phish!' i was laughing, thinking, yeah right, fat chance! so during neon, him and the guitarist from maroon 5 are trading off solos, and what does john do? he breaks out into the opening riff from STASH! me and debbie freaked out. it was so so so cool. ;-) those two events made the concert more than worth the price of admission (7.50 each!). this was the third time i've seen john mayer in a year and a half, and i'll go see him every time he comes within 150 miles of me. ;-)

tuesday - day off. went to target, costco. came home. read 375 page book. went to bed.

wednesday - after work, met up with the kids from youth group at the boardwalk. rode the giant dipper, the carousel, the bumper cars, and, because i'm totally stupid, the teacups. i am way too old for that ride. but even though it made me ill, i still had fun!

thursday - another day off. stayed home all day. was nice.

friday - sucky day at work. came home and collapsed on the couch for a while, them me and my sister went down to the boardwalk to see TIFFANY. yes, that tiffany. we shoved our way to the front, snapped some great photos, and sang along to "i think we're alone now". my inner child was so so happy that night. now all i need is to see debbie gibson in concert and i will be complete! ;-)

saturday - work again. then me, my sister and a couple of her friends went to see superbooty! everyone was dressed all funky and the show was very good. i will definetly be seeing them next time they come through town.

today - after only i few hors of sleep, i drug myself to work, then drug myself home, and forced myself to say awake so i wouldn't totally screw up my sleep schedule. and now, i think i've tortured myself long enough! time for bed!! goodnight! ;-)

rubber chef

i make a mean breakfast burrito.

i like cooking, but since i'm usually cooking for one, that rules out almost everything in my martha stweart cookbook. so i'm a pro at ramen, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and turkey sandwiches. but i did develop the perfect breakfast burrito recipe, which i will now share with all two of you who will read this. ;-)

ingredients:
2 eggs
2 medium yukon gold potatos
sliced white mushrooms
onion (i've used all kinds, but prefer sweet Maui's)
smoked gouda cheese
green onions
sausage (i use 2 morningstar farms veggie sausage patties).
tortillas ( trader joe's' handmade flour are the best)
olive oil
season salt

peel and cube potatos. (the smaller they are cut, the faster they cook.)

cut 1 or 2 thick slices of onion (depending on how much onion you like). chop it up into small pieces. also chop up the sliced mushrooms, as many as you want.

grate gouda cheese until you have a small handful. cut green onions, you'll also want a small handful. set the cheese and green onions aside in a bowl.

toss potatos, onion and mushrooms in a pan with some olive oil. cook over medium high heat, stirring occasionally so you don't burn it. season with season salt to taste. cook until brown, then set the pan aside .

while you are cooking the potato/onion/mushroom mix, scramble the eggs in a bowl. add about half of the cheese and green onions. save the rest.

in a new pan, scramble the eggs. i use a rubber spatula to make sure that the eggs are in crumbly small pieces. (does that make any sense?) cook until done (runny eggs in a breakfast burrito are nasty!) add to potato mix, set pan on low heat.

microwave veggie sausage, chop unto small pieces. (real meat sausage is ok too!) add chopped sausage to mix.

season to taste, sprinkle remaining cheese on top.

wrap in warm flour tortillas, and chow down!

this recipe makes about 3 medium size burritos, 2 for dinner and one for breakfast the next morning. yum!

if anyone tries this recipe, let me know how it turns out!

back in the saddle again...

so, i have been taking an extended break from the internet, as well as an extended break from the gym, form reading, from sleeping, and from laughing. but i am back. i feel like i have things to say, and i hate that i am not writing stuff down due to sheer laziness and not wanting to put in the effort of typing. i don't care so much if people read this... to me it's a good way to keep track of what i've been up to... someday i'll go back and read all this suff and remember the little details and be happy that i made the effort.

common ground tour this year was great! tour, for those of you who don't know, is when i hop on a bus with 40 other people, mostly teenagers, and drive for long periods of time. oh, yeah, we do concerts every night, too, since we're a youth choir, but tour is really defined by the bus. we went all the way to Vancouver and back in 9 days!! this year was my third year as an adult sponsor, and the whole thing was positively amazing. i did the choir for 3 years back in high school, so in a way, this year feels like my senior year all over again. i feel like i'm closer to a lot of the kids this year than i ever was with anyone when i was in the choir, which is kinda weird. but a lot of my 'favorite' kids have graduated, so they won't be back next year, which is a little sad. but this tour was definetly one of the best i've ever been on.

going back to work sucked. found out that one of my friends got promoted. this is good for him, he's a good guy and a hard worker, and he deserved it. bad news is that they moved him to another office. sad for me since he was the one person at work i would actually consider a friend. boo-hoo. working weekends now. that helped a lot this week, but just sucks in general. getting up early on saturday AND sunday sucks frozen hose water. that's enough about that.

saw phish the last two nights. i'd just like to say that PHISH RULES. these shows were especially exciting becasue i can remeber a time not so long ago when i wasn't sure if i'd ever see a phish show again. although they were not the best shows i've seen, they were both good, solid shows and i had a blast.
wednesday, saw the show with d. this is the first time we've seen a phish show together since 98. we walked on te lawn just as the show started... it was great timing. it was a great show... I especially enjoyed Bathtub Gin, the new song (Scents and Subtle Sounds) and boogie on reggae woman. that and the AC/DC bag. i love a good AC/DC Bag. ;-) made it out of the lot in record time... made it back to my parents house before midnight. miracle!
thursday, debbie, jon, katlynn and i went out about 4 pm so we could hang out in the lot for a while. it was katlynn's first show, which was exciting. i made her an apron top and bought her a ticket for her graduation/19th birthday present. the shirt turned out remarkably well since i was making it up as i went along, and started working on it 2 hours before i was supposed to pick her up! the lot was cool... they actually had an aisle set up for vending... which was way cool since the cops always used to bust people for it. maybe they finally realized that it was going to happen no matter what. debbie got a cool mango shirt, and bought me and katlynn pretty hemp/flower/ribbon wreaths for our hair. ran into some pb's, and one of my friends from ucsc, which was way cool. we staked out a great spot on the lawn close to the center... we could see the screen and the lights. i thought it was a great show... i was excited to hear lawnboy and divided sky. debbie totally called dwd right before it happened, which was totally cool. and the rift encore was awesome, and i thought ofericalynnthrough the whole thing. all in all, it was a good night, and katie enjoyed the show, which made me happy.

tonight was not nearly exciting... i watched the wedding planner on tv and had a smoothie for dinner. now i'm anxiously awaiting monday night, when i will drive up to concord to see john mayer and counting crows in concert!!! one of the reasons i love summer is all the great shows that come to the bay area... i just wish that i had more money and free time to check them all out... just like i wish that i didn't have to get up tomorrow morning for work.
