after weeks of anticipation, i'm FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY on vacation! the waether here in Hollywood is beautiful, i'm helping some friends move, and mentally preparing myself for the hollywood carnival tonight. i've decided to go as little red riding hood yet again - i'ts a different variation on the costume i usually wear, though. i'm still not sure. i have a few hours left to decide.
not smoke or fires visible form here, although i was tricked on the way down yesterday... over santa barbara there were a lot of grey clouds that looked a lot like smoke. i'm onnly worried about orange county - all the smoke from the san bernadino fires is blowing right over anaheim, and i hear disneyland is right in the path. hwatever, i'm hard core... i'm gonna go anyway. ;-)
ok, time to go move some boxes. more updates (and photos, too!) a little later.

a beach towel?!?
I heard on the radio today that a man sued his surgeon for leaving a 16x28 beach towel in his body for 3 months.
first - what the HELL was a beach towel doing in the operating room???
second - wouldn't you notice something like that? like, 'hey, this is a strange bulge i didn't have before! where did this come from?'
this whole thing grosses me out. the guy won his case, for 450,000. i don't know about you, but if that were me i'd want at least a few mil and the guy's medical liscence to run through my shredder. but then again, i do live in the lawsuit capital of the country. ;-)

Kill Bill....
i went to see kill bill last weekend. it was an ok movie.. i was impressed with the artisitc detail, if not by the storyline, which was a little too violent for me. the thing that made it really hard to concentrate was the fact that there were SMALL CHILDREN in the audience. there were 4 boys, two that looked about 10, and two that looked about seven. SEVEN! and they were with their PARENTS! what kind of assholes take their kids to a movie like that? ASSHOLES.

busy busy bee
things here have been busy...
new housemate moved in this week, a friend of my sister's who's finishing up with school. she's very nice. tonight we discovered that the cable in her room doesn't work. must add 'call cable company' to my to do list.
been working entirely too much. have had headache for 4 days. had my reveiw today, boss said nice things. was hard to not burst out laughing during interview, since boss is talking about me having a promotion by christmas. funny since he doesn't know i am quitting. !!!
(i wouldn't want a promotion anyway, too much hassle, only $1 per hour more than i am already making. what a rip.)
saw tuvan throat singers last weekend. was AMAZING. highly reccomended, even if you're not a fan of 'world music'. have to go pick up tickets for bobby mcferrin and ladysmith black mambazo, too.
watched too much tv... premeire week was good, am loving friends, ed, west wing, Miss match (good new show).
was going to do the friday 5 for the hell of it, but hey! no q's this week. i guess on that note, i'll crawl to bed. still exhausted even after a 3 hour nap this afternoon. *sigh* can't wait to quit. can't wait can't wait can't wait.

A Simple Prayer
Lord, make me an insturment of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
Where there is injury... pardon.
Where there is doubt... faith.
Where there is despair... hope.
Where there is darness...light.
Where theere is sadness... joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may
not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console.
To be understood, as to understand,
To be loved, as to love,
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

i don't want a governator!
the thought that arnold schwarzenegger might be our next govenor scares me.
it should scare you too.
if it doesn't, read this: 50 Reasons Not to Vote for Arnie, from the santa cruz metro. well, read it regardless... not only is it informative, it's funny! ;-)
and be sure that you're registered to vote by september 22! and then actually GO VOTE!

proof that MTV isn't totally worthless
john mayer's new CD doesn't come out for 2 more days, but i've been listening to it all day today, in it's entirety, thanks to MTV.
you can't tell by my writing, but right now i'm nearly hyperventilating, i'm so excited.
ok, not really hyperventilating, but i'm still SO STOKED (as my 9th grade science teacher used to say!).
i really like all the tracks... i may end up liking some even more than i do right now, but i won't know until i see the lyrics... great lyrics can make even the most beautiful music better.
anyway, go take a listen yourself!
john mayer - heavier things
i reccommend homelife, clarity, and daughters. take a look at the video while you're there too... my friend danny is in it! ;-)

so, so sad.
currently, it is 10:45 pm here in santa cruz california. it's saturday night, i don't have to work tomorrow, and right now i have big, big plans.
i'm going to turn off my computer, my stereo and my tv and... go to sleep.
by the way, did i mention that it's 10:45 on a SATURDAY?
this is just depressing.
i mean, i've never been a party girl, and i'm more likely to say up late making mixes or talking to my friends on IM, but to be tired enough (after a day of doing virtually nothing) to go to bed at 10:45 on a saturday? *sigh*. i think i'm getting old.
goals for my day off tomorrow:
- balance my checkbook.
- take out the garbage.
- do a few loads of laundry.
- get a life.

i know it might be wrong...
Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne is the catchiest fucking thing i've heard in AGES.
and it's catchy in a good way, not that 'i want to tear my hair out because it's stuck in my head' way.

so.... tired....
i hate labor day because it's the end of the summer, but i love it because fun things always happen on 3 day weekends!
i spent my free time this year at the church retreat, which was great. a carnival, a variety show, scary men in grass skirts going by the names of ugg and other ugg (no kidding!) and the best part of camp... prank wars! the girls started off by removing the door to the boys cabin and hiding it. plans to t.p. the boys cabin were ruined by a locked door and , and then the boys struck back by removing all the mattresses from the beds in our cabin and placing them in our bathroom. our attempt to string their cabin was foiled (and we were almost done, too!!) and by then the weekend was over. we've got some great tricks up our sleeves for next year though! ;-)
i was up really late both nights, so i was going to go to sleep early tonight, but then i just happened to see a commercial saying that they're premeiring john mayer's new video tonight at 11. guess i'm going to bed at 11 now. *sigh*. i never get enough sleep!

SLACKER
i was all set to berate myself as a slacker for abandoning my blog yet again, but you know, after getting up at 5:45 am and working an 11 hour day, all i really want to do is sit on my couch and read and drink smoothies.
(BTW, pine-orange-bannana juice, pineapples, strawberries, peaches and lemon sorbet make a DAMN good smoothie.)

yes, i DO need another cd.
it has been a good week for cd purchases!
during my last two trips to target, i picked up cd's by rooney, daniel bedingfield, josh kelly, and junior senior.
rooney was a fluke, i heard about half of blueside on the radio and decided that i needed the cd. usually i am scared to buy a cd before i hear it (aka downloading it off kazaa), becasue nothing is worse than buying a cd and having it totally suck except for the one song you heard on the radio. but rooney is very good. it's a combination of california beach music and classic british pop, if such a combination is possible. it's good stuff.
i've wanted the daniel bedingfield cd for a while, but i can't stand paying more than 12 bucks for a cd, and since it's not a new release, it was never on sale. i was lucky i saw the tiny sign that said 9.99 on sale!

wide open spaces
back in the day, when i bought my first computer, i was amazed at it's huuuge 4 gig hard drive. i recall my dad telling me, 'you'll never use up all that space'.
three years later, when i moved into the dorms at ucsc i discovered the joy that was the ethernet, and with it, the coolness of etree! i could download phish shows off the internet and burn them myself! no more b&p's! needless to say, that 4 gig hard drive seemed awfully small all of a sudden.
it was about time for a new computer anyway, and with the help of a $750 computer grant from ucsc (!!!) i bought my current computer, with a 40 gig hard drive. 10 times biggger than the last one... i'd really never use up all that space.
wrong again... the other day i realized that my hard drive was full. and since this time i didn't have a chunk of money to buy a new computer, i went to costco and picked up a new 120 gig hard drive. after 3 days of backing up my files, i took my computer apart only to realize that i needed more stuff to install the hard drive... then once i got it in the computer and all connected, it kept telling me that there was boot disk failure... but i got it working and now i have 2 hard drives with 152 gigs of space. ;-)
this is monumental for me in other ways... i remember being so scared of the inside of a computer.... worried that i would break something, so i was always getting other people to install stuff for me. but now i've installed a new hard drive with no help, and i feel like i've come such a long way. ;-) i love being a geek.
